YouTube Gets Adjustable Playback Speed Controls
YouTubeis rolling out a new update for Android and iOS users. It brings a revamped playback speed control that allows you to control the playback speed more precisely. Ever felt that 1x is too slow but 1.25x is a bit too fast? YouTube now allows you to choose a playback speed using a scrollbar.
What’s New in YouTube Playback Speed Controls
The previous playback speed menu was a tall sheet with options that took up almost half the screen. You could pick from0.25x, 0.5x, 0.75x, Normal, 1.25x, 1.5x, 1.75x,and2xspeeds. No way to choose any other playback speed option.
Now, YouTube has introduced a redesigned interface that’s compact and sits neatly at the bottom of the screen. The new playback menu features five preset speeds:0.25x, 1.0x (Normal), 1.25x, 1.5x, and 2.0xdisplayed in pill-shaped buttons. These are fewer options compared to the old version, but the new design has a slider that allows you to make preciseadjustments in 0.05x increments.

Want to speed things up just a bit more than 1.25x but not to 1.5x? Now you can, thanks to this slider. Also, you will see two “+” and “-” buttons to adjust the playback speed easily. This makes the interface much cleaner and aligns with Google’s new Material You design standards.
When Do You Get New Playback Controls
This new playback speed redesign is rolling out as a server-side update, so you just need to wait until Google pushes the update to you. However, make sure you are running version19.43 or above for Androidand19.44 or above for iOS.
Whether you’re catching up on a podcast at 1.25x speed or slowing down a cooking tutorial to follow every detail, these new controls make YouTube a more versatile tool for learning and entertainment.
