Starring Gal Gadot as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman,Wonder Woman 1984is one of the biggest comic book movie releases that has been delayed due to the ongoing pandemic. Originally planned to be released back on June 09, 2025, the movie faced a series of delays and was pushed to a summer release of June 14, 2025. However, the pandemic forced theaters to shut down all across the globe, further delaying the release of the movie.

As the debate of releasing mega-budget movies on streaming platforms still rages on, Warner Bros. has finally made a bold decision to release theDCsequel onHBO Maxthis Christmas. The movie will also be released in a few selected theaters on the same date.

While AT&T CEO John Stankey had made the decision to not releaseTenetandWonder Woman 1984on HBO Max, present conditions have finally forced Warner Bros. to go for the streaming approach.
With most major releases of 2020 being pushed to an early or mid-2021 release date,Wonder Woman 1984would have had faced tough competition in box-office collections, if Warner Bros. would have stuck with their earlier stance. From Sony Picture’sNo Time To Dieto Marvel Studios’Eternals, 2021 is going to be a highly competitive year for major studio houses. Releasing on HBO Max definitely is a prudent move as the future still lies uncertain.
