Animal death controversy during Will Smith’s documentary shoot
The Pursuit of Happynessactor Will Smith was working with Claws Conservancy for a documentary on the conservation of Africa. During the shoot, a lioness was shot with a tranquilizer dart to fit a big cat in a tracking collar. However, things spiraled quickly when the lioness died after being tranquilized.
Oscar-winner was filming a documentary on conservation in Africa when the incident occurred. Botswana’s Department of Wildlife and National Parks had brought in an independent vet to investigate the sudden demise of the animal.
Smith has made no public statement about the disappointing incident that occurred in June. The document was one of the first few projects he took up after the Chris Rock incident, in 2022.

Animal Activist sparks online outrage over lioness’ death
Sue Spurgin is an animal activist who shared the news about the death of the lioness on his Twitter. The post sparked a wave of online outrage. He wrote in theTwitter(now X) post,
“#Lion dies after being darted during a documentary filming by #American Oscar-winning Hollywood actor Will Smith in #Botswana. Once again #wildlife suffers for human greed & entertainment Once again #wildlife suffers for human greed & entertainment.”
Numerous Twitter users have reposted it, and people are criticizing the Oscar winner for his carelessness. It is unclear if Smith’s documentary will have the “No Animals Have Been Harmed” tag.
