The failure of MCU phase 4

Coming off strong with the success ofAvengers: Endgame, fans had high hopes for MCU’s phase 4. Its president Kevin Feige had also announced a new slate of films and shows, which promised new and exciting characters to join the fold and give the universe more range.

But phase 4 has been filled with duds, with only a few tasting some success such asShang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten RingsandSpider-Man: No Way Home. On the other hand, productions such asShe-Hulk: Attorney at Law,Thor: Love and Thunder, and many more were poorly received.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which was propped up to be the biggest release of phase 4, with veteran director Sam Raimi onboard as director and music by Danny Elfman, still failed for many fans and critics, due to tonal inconsistencies, badly-timed humor, and camp.

Will we see the Russo Brothers return to MCU?

Helming some of the most profitable and loved projects of MCU, such asCaptain America2and3as well asAvengers 3and4, fans were wondering when the Russo Brothers would return to the studio and save it from more cringe. Commenting on the growing demand, they said to Variety:

“We’re always talking; we’d need to see what would work. We won’t be ready to do anything with Marvel until the end of the decade.”

The end of the decade would also mean the end of phases 4 and 5, both of which are making fans concerned due to many Marvel projects failing. So this might be an indication that the Russos are trying to stay away from Marvel until it stops screwing up. Commenting on Marvel studios, they noted:

“I think part of the reason we gravitated to Marvel is they were another family unit made up of lovely people and lovely creatives, who also like being in a cooperative.”

Though on the other hand, it would be preferable to see the directors ofAvengers: Infinity WarandEndgamereturn as they were successful in handling a large roster of superheroes and still keeping the story engaging. WithAvengers 5and6expanding the cast, there are only a few names fans truly trust.
