In a world that’s dominated by the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the stars who portray the characters from the pages of Marvel Comics are the closest thing to a real-life superhero for many. Among them, the most distinguished and respected one is none other than Chris Evans, the man behind bringing Captain America to life.

Throughout the four major phases that the MCU has gone through, the star has been one of the most crucial aspects of the story leading up to the epic conclusion inAvengers: Endgame, which has only made the character all the more amazing. But when it comes to his first film, the impact that he had on the audience was something else, an impact that could’ve very easily been tarnished if not for budget constraints.

Chris Evans Was Supposed To Fight A Giant Robot At The End OfCaptain America: The First Avenger

We all remember the story of how a young soldier named Steve Rogers, who had a dream of serving his country but lacked the physical means to do so became the pride and joy of the United States after becoming Captain America. The role was brought to the world withChris Evansiconically portraying the character in the MCU for almost a decade since the release ofCaptain America: The First Avenger. The origin story was such a memorable part of the character’s charm that it had to be perfect, something that might’ve been lost if not for a problem that arose.

In a recent interview withYahoo! Entertainment, the screenwriters of the aforementioned film Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely talked about all the things that went into making sure that the film was as flawless as possible. Here, they also revealed that the iconic ending of the film which is still loved by many was actually going to be Steve Rogers fighting a giant Hydra mech controlled by Red Skull. The only thing that didn’t let this idea come to fruition was the time and budget constraints that the production was going through. Markus said:

“A large chunk of the third act was Cap fighting this robot. It was a Nazi super robot under the control of the villainous Red Skull called Panzer Max. I think eventually it was a budget and time thing. Where it was like, ‘We really can’t be spending that much time.'”

This problem proved to be a boon in disguise since the ending was changed to the emotional farewell that we all came to love.

What Is Next For Captain America?

With the conclusion of Phase Four of the MCU, the fate of Steve Rogers was sealed when he traveled back in time to live his life with Agent Carter, away from being Captain America. Therefore, with no one to lead the new Avengers into the future, it was uncertain what would happen to the Star-Sprangled super soldier.

Luckily, Rogers found the man to pass down his shield to in Sam Wilson, a.k.a, The Falcon. After Wilson accepts the responsibility that was passed down to him by his predecessor, we see him take on the title of Captain America inThe Falcon and The Winter Soldier.
