HBO Max’s highly anticipated seriesThe Penguincasts prominent villain actor Clancy Brown. He will reportedly play Gotham City’s mob leader Salvatore Maroni inThe Batmanspin-off, as perVariety. The character was briefly seen on a TV screen in the movie but was never credited.

Maroni, in Matt Reeves’ film, was mentioned to have been detained after a drug bust operation following a set-up made by fellow mobster Carmine Falcone. The character was previously played by David Zayas inGothamand Eric Roberts inThe Dark Knight.

Clancy Brown Proves An Experienced Actor When It Comes To Comic Book Villain Roles
This is not the first time Clancy Brown delved into the DC universe as he has previously voiced supervillain Lex Luthor in several animated projects and even video games. He is also a favorite when it comes to comic book adaptations. Brown has played Colonel Ray Schoonover on the Netflix original series Marvel’sDaredevil, and General Wade Eiling on The CW’sThe Flash.
His other notable roles include voicing Surtur on Marvel’sThor: Ragnarok, Trident inTeen Titans, Parallax inGreen Lantern, and Mr. Krabs on Nickelodeon’sSpongeBob SquarePantsseries.

Salvatore Maroni first appeared in the 1924Detective Comics#66 issue. Created by Bill Finger and Bob Kane, the villain is most remarkably known for creating the origin story of Two-Face, also known as Harvey Dent.
The Penguinis one of the several planned spin-offs based on Reeves’The Batman. Colin Farrell will star as Oswald ‘Oz’ Cobblepot/the Penguin. Other cast names include Cristin Milioti, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Michael Kelly, Rhenzy Feliz, and Deirdre O’Connell.

Lauren LeFranc will serve as the writer, executive producer, and showrunner of the upcoming series. Matt Reeves will executive produce via 6th & Idaho, and Dylan Clark via Dylan Clark Productions. Farrell will also serve as executive producer, while Craig Zobel will direct the first three episodes.

Aside fromThe Penguin, another series related toThe Batman’s Arkham Asylum is reportedly brewing at the headquarters. The movie’s sequel is also expected to arrive on June 10, 2025. Meanwhile, Clancy Brown is set to appear in the much-anticipatedJohn Wick: Chapter 4.
There is no official release date yet for HBO Max’sThe Penguin, although it is expected to arrive sometime in late 2023 or early 2024.
