Fans of a galaxy far, far away are getting spoiled at the moment, with countless tv shows likeThe Mandalorian, The Bad BatchandAndorto get our teeth stuck into, but if you’re reading this it’s due to your love of the games set in theStar Warsuniverse. We have some good news. Sort of.

Star Wars

Only last month us fans were treated toStar Wars Jedi: Survivor,a fantastic sequel toStar Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, and it has left fans not only wanting more from that franchise, be it DLC for the base game or another sequel, but fans also want Cal Kestis to make an appearance in live action. Whether that’ll happen is anyone’s guess, but we lovedStar Wars Jedi: Survivor, so count us in for that.

Ubisoft and their Star Wars Game

Unlike EA with their multiple licences and sports franchise games, Ubisoft haven’t had the best couple of years financially, which is putting it lightly. Having recently announced at their latest shareholder’s meeting the largest operating loss in its history, it’s safe to say things are a little dicier for theAssassin’s Creedstudio.

However, that could be all about to change. Announcing at that same meeting, not only do fans of the studio have a reportedeighttitles to be released – includingAssassin’s Creed: Mirage, Avatar: Frontiers of PandoraandXdefiant –in the next year, its now being rumoured that the long-expected Star Wars game is further in development that expected, with the studio supposedly aiming for a  fiscal year 2024 release. Of course with the video games industry especially this could change, and we’re all no strangers to massive AAA games being pushed back significantly, but for now there is a new hope that we may be get to experience Project Helix as it’s currently known sooner than expected.

Being developed by Massive as the lead studio, better known for their two looter-shootersThe DivisionandThe Division 2,the studio haven’t said much about the project, except that it’ll be a ‘big departure and totally different’ from those two games.

Ubisoft themselves are well known for open-world games, unfortunately to the point where they’ve become the industry standard for ‘pretty to look at but completely empty’, so here’s hoping they can take the good parts of Ubisoft’s experience with the genre and then make it feel a little more lived-in and weathered, just likeThe Divisionseries.

Whatever happens with the game it is clear that Ubisoft desperately need a big win both financially and critically. If it feels like a little while since you played a new Ubisoft game that’s because it has been, unless you played the latestJust DanceorMario + Rabbids Sparks of Hopelast year, like us, you’ve been waiting. Star Wars is always a licence for developers to print money, but we’re hoping the game is closer in quality toStar Wars Jedi: Survivorthan it is toStar Wars: Squadrons.

As for anything else, we simply don’t know. We can certainly speculate and hope though. Anyone else really want a Star Wars version of theThe Witcher?
