Will Robert Downey Jr. Return To The MCU?
In many ways,Robert Downey Jr.changed the face of cinema with the first MCU filmIron Man. The actor became the face of the MCU along with Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers a.k.a Captain America and the rest of the original Avengers. Downey Jr. reprised the role of Tony Stark in two moreIron Mansequels and all theAvengersfilms, as well as a few cameos.
Downey Jr. had his last run as Iron Man in the climacticAvengers: Endgame. In order to defeat Thanos, Tony Stark sacrifices his life and uses the infinity stones to kill Thanos and his army and save the world. His death lingers for much of phase four of the franchise and with Steve Rogers’ departure, the MCU has been clamoring for a new face.

Jonathan Majors’ Kang the Conqueror was set up to be the main antagonist of the MCU’s Multiverse Saga, which would pit the Kang variant against all the new characters that have emerged since the Avengers such as the Marvels, She-Hulk, and possibly the X-Men. However, Majors’ escalating legal troubles have reportedly caused much concern and plans have been changing.

According toVariety, one of the fail-safes that Marvel Studios was considering was to bring back the original Avengers instead of going the Kang route, which includes Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans. While there have been no official announcements yet, an X user revealed a scoop saying that Downey Jr. had agreed to return.

Why Is Loki Better Suited Now To Destroy Kang?
Jonathan Majors’ Kang the Conqueror and other variants such as He Who Remains and the Council of Kangs were introduced in the first season of the Disney Plus showLoki. He Who Remains was the one who created the Time Variance Authority and was responsible for keeping The Sacred Timeline intact. However, Loki’s variant Sylvie kills him causing the multiverse to collapse. This prompts Tom Hiddleston’s Loki to go back in time and prevent it.
In the second season’s final episode, Loki destroys the Sacred Timeline and becomes the God of Stories. It is speculated that he replaced the duties of He Who Remains and is now in charge of the multiverse. He Who Remains was a Kang variant who stopped the Multiversal War by making sure that the multiverse variants do not interact with each other with the help of the TVA.
Loki’s transformation makes him the perfect adversary for Kang the Destroyer who is biding his time to escape the Quantum Realm and take over the multiverse. He Who Remains was the last person to stop him, and with Loki taking over the reins, he might be powerful enough more than Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man to take down Kang.
you’re able to bring back Tobey, Hugh, RDJ, etc. & still none of them would be able face off against Kang in the way#Lokiwould. This is the matchup we need to see.pic.twitter.com/aBwu4m71UF
Loki is the new face of the MCU. And it’s the right call.
Loki is now God of Stories and Kang and his varients are still out there. I can’t wait to see how they handle this and I’m actually now looking forward to Kang Dynasty. Well done Marvel.pic.twitter.com/bHxANKg6tZ

I been saying this all day I need marvel to have Loki be the one to face off with Kang and defeat him. No one in the MCU at the moment make more sense than Loki.
Tom Hiddleston is carrying the MCU on his back right now
The fans seem to be on board with this eventual crossover. However, the series finale also indicates this to be the final appearance of Loki or he might be limited to the space he is in as leaving his position would render the multiverse vulnerable. This crossover might also never happen because of Jonathan Majors’ legal troubles which has prompted Marvel executives to deviate from the Kang storyline.
