Whether as a movie or a Disney+ show, there seems to be a lot that the franchise is planning to work on.

Out of the many things introduced in the film, it was the post-credit scene that could change the entire flow of the MCU, especially with Captain Marvel. So much so that she may no longer be the most powerful character in the franchise at all.

The Marvels Introduced a New Superhero
The post-credit sequence ofBrie Larson’sThe Marvelswas a turning point for the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe. It showed Monica Rambeau being completely overwhelmed as she woke up from her unconscious state. The reason for the same is because before her stands Maria Rambeau, her mother who had long since passed.
She was then met with the Beast, who explained that it was Binary before her, clearing any misunderstanding that may be forming. This introduced a variant of Monica’s mother, blasting her through the multiverse.

The scene introduced the character of Binary as well as the X-Men, creating a shift in the narrative of how the MCU has been telling stories for a while now. For a long time, Captain Marvel was established to be one of the strongest superheroes in the franchise, overpowering some of the most iconic characters with ease. Binary may be able to change the course of things, completely overthrowing the power dynamics previously established.

Who is Binary?
Binary was a character who initially, in the comics, was shown to be a version of Carol Danvers. However, the movie introduced the character with the face of Maria Rambeau. Her character was already shown as a variant of Captain Marvel inDoctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madnessbut that variant did die. This version seems to be much different. Binary, according to the comics, was born of a duplicate of Carol Danvers after she took inspiration from Photon’s methods of using her energy powers.
Being trapped inside a Faraday Cage by Vox Supreme, Danvers released massive bounds of her energy, which she reabsorbed. Upon meddling with Vox’s headquarters alongside the Phoenix force, Captain Marvel gets set free, bringing into the picture Binary. InThe Marvels,Binary seems to be not Danvers but Maria Rambeau.

Maria has been one of Carol’s most trusted friends and partners not just in the franchise but also in the comics. In different universes, she is also either a variant of Captain Marvel herself or Photon. Not only are her variants a part of the comics but now twice over in the MCU. To have her be a parallel to Danvers is something that could not only link Captain Marvel to the X-Men but also various versions of herself.

What Makes Binary More Powerful than Captain Marvel?
Binary may possibly be able to overpower Captain Marvel with ease. Maria Rambeau had always been hinted to be one of the greatest companions Carol Danvers had. Seeing that in the comics (Earth-616) Binary was born by mimicking Rambeau’s powers in the usage of Captain Marvel’s own powers. Considering how Binary is directly attached to Danvers, to think of her as someone more powerful than Captain Marvel won’t be too far-fetched.
Binary is meant to wield the power mirroring that of a star. Captain Marvel was already a strong force to deal with, and having her persona as Binary made her even stronger. This enabled her to rise through the ranks in an instant. Binary is a force to be reconned with, one that is described to be Danvers herself but better. ‘Higher, further, faster,’ as she puts it.
