Stating that the movie was going in a different direction than what Stallone had originally intended, the actor dropped out of the third part of the franchise to leave it up to Michael B. Jordan and Irwin Winkler to deal with it.
The actor had a quarrel with producer Irwin Winkler over some rights issues of theRockyand theCreedfranchise which also added to the fallout ofSylvester StallonewithCreed III.The actor however stated that only forMichael B. Jordan, he wouldn’t mind returning to the franchise if the other people were not involved.

“Michael B. Jordan, nice guy, the studio’s wonderful. But it’s just the…it’s been such a real, rough emotional ride. That’s all. It really has. Now, if Michael B. Jordan, we come up with a story, I’ll do Creed 4 with him as long as the other fella’s not involved,”

Directed by Ryan Coogler,Creedbecame a one-of-its-kind movie as people rushed to the theaters to see the merger between the old and the new generation of boxers. With Michael B. Jordan and Stallone portraying lead roles, the movie was bound to succeed butThe Expendablesactor did not think so during the beginning.

The actor recalled that Ryan Coogler had to convince Stallone to take up the role and it took him 2 whole years to do that! Eventually, Coogler’s persistence was what impressed Stallone so much that he took up the offer and the rest is history.
“So he goes away and does Fruitvale Station. Wins all these awards, and he’s offered multiple job opportunities and he keeps coming back to Creed. I see this and say, this fellow here obviously is functioning on a different kind of energy. It is heartfelt, not monetary, not ego. It’s as though he has to finish a mission, which was a love letter to his father who had been very, very ill and that stimulated the idea. So I finally said, ‘You know what? Someone took a chance on me, once. I’m just going to throw caution to the wind and let him run with it,’”
In the end, theCreedfranchise came out to be one of the best sequels ever made that bridged the gap between the old and the new. The recently releasedCreed IIIis available to rent on Apple TV+.
