Benedict Cumberbatch thinks his face is weird

During the “In Conversation” segment, when BAFTA collaborated withThe Hollywood Reporter,Benedict Cumberbatchwas open to admitting his true thoughts on his face. According to the 47-year-old, he has got a weird face. The1917actor doesn’t believe his fans or the sources even a bit, who praise his face as one of Britain’s most good-looking men.

“It’s the blessing of having a weird face — somewhere between an otter and something people find vaguely attractive. Or just an otter which is vaguely attractive. In all seriousness, I grew up with this face and it’s been in the industry for 10 years and now it’s getting on these ‘Hottie’ lists.”

Benedict Cumberbatch even goes to the extent of criticizing his face as some kind of weirdness. Initially, he didn’t anticipate any hype or appreciation and thought his face and neck to be too long. The actor says that he can never agree to his face being attractive, rather, the performances do magic.

“It doesn’t make any sense because I was nowhere near the thousandth hottest face when I started out. So, I know a lot of it’s projection, which is flattering about the work. When I started out I said, ‘I know I’m not a typical beauty’, so basically I’ve got a long neck and a long face. That’s usually some kind of inbreeding weirdness.”

Benedict Cumberbatch’s mother also had the same feeling

Benedict Cumberbatch is not the only one who had doubts over his looks and strongly underestimated himself. Even his mother was doubtful when he helmed the role of the 221B Baker Street detective in the BBC series.

In an interview with Times Out (viaDaily Mail), Cumberbatch’sSherlockco-star Steven Moffat revealed that the star’s mother Wanda Ventham mimicked the same thoughts as his son. She didn’t think her son to be good-looking enough for the role of Sherlock Holmes.

“Benedict’s mum didn’t think he was good-looking enough to play Sherlock. Nobody did. He never thought of himself as good-looking and everyone casually agreed with him.”
