James Gunn has been a subject of discussion among the fans of the superhero genre since he took the seat of co-CEO at DC Studios. Popularly known for introducing theGuardians of the Galaxyin the MCU, Gunn completed his venture with the studio with the release of the threequel in the Marvel film series.Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3is already a hit, crossing the mark of $500 globally. However, despite being that successful, theGuardians of the Galaxyfilm series was unable to make it among its director’s favorite superhero films.

In his recent interview with GQ, TheSuicide Squaddirector revealed his top five favorite superhero films. Although he did have a Marvel film on his list, it was neither his film series nor the most successful MCU movie so far,Avengers: Endgame.

James Gunn NamesDeadpoolAmong His Favorite Superhero Films
The 2016 action adventure filmDeadpoolintroducedRyan Reynoldsas the titular hero. The film was an instant hit and became one of the highest-grossing films of the year. Fans loved its mature theme and the different perspectives that had been carried throughout the classic superheroes.
During his recent interview with GQ,James Gunnalso namedDeadpoolamong his favorite superhero films. He described the film as“heartfelt”and “fun” and even praised the lead star of the film. Talking about both the movies in the series, he said,“They are so well made, so heartfelt and fun, and Ryan Reynolds just kills it.”

He also called the film the“perfect adaptation of a comic book”as it adapts every detail about the character and the story from comics, all while keeping everything“grounded.” He also praised the actor for his work and called him one of the great comic book icons similar to Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man and Christopher Reeve’s Superman.

James Gunn Praises Ryan Reynolds ForDeadpool
Before his successful venture into the MCU, Ryan Reyolds starred in a DC film as Hal Jordan, aka Green Lantern. UnlikeDeadpool, the film did not sit well with critics or fans. However, there are still a number of fans who loved the movie and were looking forward toThe Proposalstar’s return as the DC superhero.
James Gunn earlier took to Twitter to deny Reynolds’ return, saying,“That’s not a priority for me and even much less of one for [Ryan Reynolds],”hinting that he is also not a fan of the 2011 film. However, Gunn loves the 46-year-old actor in the role of Deadpool. In his recent interview, he said,

“Ryan’s such a funny guy. I think along with like Robert Downey Jr as Iron Man orChristopher Reeveas Superman, he’s one of the all-time great comic book icons.”
While fans might not get to see his return as Green Lantern, Reynolds is set to reprise his role in the upcoming threequel of theDeadpoolfilm series, which is set to release in 2024.
