WhenRoboCopfirst burst onto the big screen in 1987, many cinemagoers were not prepared for the awesome spectacle of cinematic action that befell them. With subsequent sequels to the movie franchise came the unsurprising video game adaptations, which at the time were fun and helped fans take on the character for themselves.

Robocop: Rogue City

However, as with games of that era, they have not aged well, and thankfully, over 35 years since the first game was launched, there is finally a worthy successor to these past titles in the form ofRoboCop: Rogue City. Released by Nacon on November 2 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, the Teyon-developed game has been the publisher’s greatest success to date, and it is easy to see why.

How Well Has RoboCop: Rogue City Been Received?

RoboCop: Rogue Citylaunched on November 2 with the immortal tagline ‘part man, part machine, all cop‘ which fans will remember from the titular 1987 movie, and the pop culture hero has returned to clean up Old Detroit. With three prime directives – Serve the Public Trust, Protect the Innocent, and Uphold the Law, Alex Murphy is back to combating crime in the only way he knows how.

For many fans of the 80s movie, this game has a certain amount of nostalgia, and it can be seen as a direct link to childhoods when they first experienced the merging of man and machine on the big screen. Who can forget Alex Murphy being blown apart, only to be resurrected as the cyborg cop tasked with cleaning up Old Detroit? Well, now, in 2023, there is the adaptation that this movie finally deserves.

RoboCop: Rogue City

Since its launch, the game has received a 92% positive review rating on theSteamplatform (at the time of writing) and has been played by over 435,000 players with no less than 2.7 million active game sessions. This has led to Teyon and NACON, along with collaborator Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM), releasing atrailerto celebrate the success of the game.

Alain Falc, CEO of NACON, had the following to say regarding the success of the game:

“Holy f**k what the hell is that”: Helldivers 2 Devs May Have Shadow Dropped a Terrifying New Enemy as Part of the Latest Hotfix

RoboCop: Rogue City has exceeded our expectations, and achieved a genuine feat as far as NACON is concerned. We are really proud to have been able to work with the studio Teyon on this game created by and for RoboCop die-hards.

We would also like to thank MGM for the trust they placed in us throughout this collaboration, as well as all the players who have contributed to making this release such a great success.

The developers at Teyon have done a sterling job with the game, and it does pay tribute to the franchise, not just by bringing back Peter Weller, who was the voice and face of the lead character. Subtle references to the source material, whether it be locations, weapons, or supporting cast, show how much hard work and attention to detail Teyon has implemented for fans to enjoy.

Sure, the game might not win any awards, but it’s dark and gritty, just like the original movie, and that’s why fans love it so much. No one was looking for a big-budget adaptation that would ultimately fall flat. No, fans are happy to get what Teyon has produced- an honest adaptation of a fan favorite character brought bang up to date for current-gen consoles and Windows.

Those of a certain generation will remember fondly the movies and the subsequent games that followed, so it is refreshing to see the character receive a game deserving of the legendary cyborg. It is no surprise to seeRoboCop: Rogue Citybeing well received by fans, and to quote from the original 1987 movie, ‘I’d buy that for a dollar!’, or slightly more in this case.
