In a glittering directorial career spanning over six decades and still counting, Martin Scorsese has proved time and again, that he is one of Hollywood’s greatest filmmakers. Over the years, the Oscar-winning veteran has regaled audiences through his powerful narratives that have combined stylized action with the complexities of human relationships in an expert fashion.

After a staggering 60 years of experience in Hollywood, it is fair to say thatMartin Scorsesehas achieved everything in cinema. The veteran though, is still as passionate about his craft as he was when he made his first film. While his work has gone beyond any rating system, Scorsese has openly admitted that he is completely against judging a film in this manner, as it did not give the true picture about its quality and the hard work that went into making it.

In a no-holds-barred honest essay that appeared inThe Hollywood Reporter, theTaxi Driverdirector condemned a few prominent film review sites that took downJennifer Lawrence’sfilmMother,directed by Darren Aronofsky, in brutal fashion. After watching the film, Scorsese was of the opinion that it was a true masterpiece, and was wrongly judged for its F rating.

“After I had a chance to see Mother,  I was even more disturbed by this rush to judgment, and that’s why I wanted to share my thoughts. People seemed to be out for blood, simply because the film couldn’t be easily defined or interpreted or reduced to a two-word description. It was so tactile, so beautifully staged and acted.”

Scorsese also elaborated on the various technical aspects of the film that stood out for him, and concluded by saying that it deserved not just small praise, but a huge applause.

Martin Scorsese’sKillers Of The Flower MoonCameo Explained

The years have not put a stop to Martin Scorsese’s inspiring enthusiasm and creativity. The Oscar-winning director stunned audiences and critics once again with his latest film,Killers of the Flower Moon, that follows the true story of a Native American tribe in Osage County, who are mercilessly killed for material gain. Apart from Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert DeNiro, one of the central roles was played by Lily Gladstone, who portrayed Mollie Burkhart, an Osage tribe member who bravely counters these spree of murders.

Apart from the brilliant visual and emotional intensity of the film, audiences were also treated to a cameo appearance by Scorsese himself in the final moments of the film. The director who reveals the somber plight of Gladstone’s character that forms one of the lump-in-the-throat moments in the film, elaborated on why he took it upon himself to be in that scene. In an in-depth interview withEntertainment Weekly, Scorsese said,

“I didn’t know how to direct it. I couldn’t ask an actor to do it, so I said, ‘Let me try. It’s one shot, and if it doesn’t work, I think I know what I could tell an actor to do.’”

Writer Eric Roth who was unaware that Scorsese was going to appear on screen, revealed that he was moved to tears by his presence, while also stating that having the director culminate Burkhart’s powerful story, was the icing on the cake.
