Dave Bautista has been a master-class fighter long before he portrayed the formidable Drax the Destroyer inGuardians of the Galaxyand his glorious WWE career stands testament to the same. While he bid farewell to the sport back in 2010, courtesy of a litany of problems that he faced, he continued to have several stints till 2019. At WrestleMania 35, though, Bautista announced his official retirement as a professional wrestler after his epic fight against close friend and mentor, Triple H. But not only did he lose the brutal showdown opposite the now-chief content officer for WWE, but Bautista also ended up botching the promo prior to the match.

‘Give Me What I Want’ – The Infamous Dave Bautista Promo
When he sat down with Chris Van Vliet to talk about a plethora of things, including Michael Dowse’s buddy cop film,Stuber, that he was starring in, the 54-year-old actor was asked about the ‘Give Me What I Want’ promo that he’d accidentally bungled.“It wasn’t intentional,”he admitted.
The peculiar promo that felt unnecessarily stretched withDave Bautista‘s ‘Give Me What I Want’ chant was a result of him forgetting something particularly important that he was supposed to mention. It didn’t help that neither he nor Triple H had hashed out the specifics beforehand which only worsened the situation.

“It’s weird because somewhere in that it was supposed to be that [Give me what I want] but we didn’t really figure it out. We didn’t talk about it. It wasn’t written out. There were certain things we were looking for in that promo. There was something that I hadn’t said so [Triple H] kept dragging it out. I wasn’t sure what it was. So, I had to keep escalating cause once I went there I couldn’t back. So, that’s why I kept saying it louder and louder.”
Both the contenders were obliviously waiting for the other’s cues until they realized they“just weren’t getting there.”But by the time it“dawned on [Bautista]”that he“needed to say something in that promo,”the situation had already spiraled amok.

But turns out Bautista was absolutely unfazed by it. If anything, that accidental trip acted as a catalyst for soothing his nerves.“I was so worked up before that and after I tripped, I just had fun.”The fact that it was also his final fight and the last time that he was going to be there further fueled him up and pushed him to“live in the moment.”
Although he lost the fight to Triple H, Bautista has been excelling in acting with his Hollywood career reaching new heights with every other project. His latest film, James Gunn’sGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3is set to release on July 15, 2025.
