A Schiaparelli custom, made by French designer Daniel Roseberry, should exude luxury and extravagance. But to the 10-year-old, the pearl-covered ensemble looked“fake”and“beachy.”
In the ninth episode ofThe KardashiansSeason 4, during the final fitting of the gown, hours before the event commenced, Roseberry commented how he had heard North was“into the look.”Her response was blunt,“Yeah, well, it could be just a little better.”In the preceding episode, the young girl was shown exclaiming over a FaceTime call when she first saw the outfit.

This display of excitement made Kardashian initially believe that her daughter adored the look. Alas, the reality of North’s feelings came crashing down on the media personality when she requested the latter’s input into improving the outfit before the event began. Following was what she said to her mother and Daniel Roseberry:
“There’s way too much [sic]gaps in the pearls. It looks like she’s a Hawaiian girl with her dress all ripped. The pearls look fake. […] It’s looking, like, beachy… It’s, like, the diamonds ruin it.”
North’s comment ought to have stung. It even made Roseberry say,“This is my worst nightmare… come to life.”
Following this exchange,Kim Kardashianwould later advise her daughter to express disapproval of something without offending others. However, North West remained largely unaffected by this. Instead, she replied with a retort that left her mother defeated.

Following this interaction, the businesswoman offered some advice—an attempt at coaxing North into not hurting other people by being brutally honest.
Kim Kardashian said:
“There’s a way to be honest and not hurt people’s feelings. So, I want you to learn that because there’s a way to say, ‘You know, I might not love that.”
