For fans that want the next chapter in the John Wick franchise after seeingJohn Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellumthis past weekend, you won’t have to wait long asJohn Wick 4has been announced with a release date exactly two years away on May 21st, 2021.
Lionsgate officially announced the news following the movie’s huge opening weekend of $56.8 million in North America and $93.3 million worldwide.
John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellumstars Keanu Reeves in the returning in his third outing as the titular action hero, supporting actors Ian McShane, Laurence Fishburne & Lance Reddick all return while Mark Dacascos, Halle Berry, Asia Kate Dillon and Anjelica Huston all debut in the franchise.
Helmed by stuntman turned director, Chad Stahelski, the third installment to the John Wick franchise sees Reeves’ character return with a $14 million price tag on his head and an army of bounty-hunting killers on his trail. After killing a member of the shadowy international assassin’s guild, the High Table, John Wick is excommunicado, but the world’s most ruthless hit men and women await his every turn.
This third installment’s opening weekend has already overtaken the firstJohn Wickreleased in 2014 which totaled at just over $43 million domestically and $88.7 million worldwide, meanwhileJohn Wick: Chapter 2released in 2017 stands at just over $92 million domestically and $171.5 million worldwide.
No further details have been announced about the forthcoming fourth installment in theJohn Wicksaga. Lionsgate’s recent win at the box office sees the movie studio almost doubling rivalDisney’s ongoing cash cowAvengers: Endgameas it ended its fourth weekend with $30 million.Endgamewas finally knocked off the top spotat the box officesince its release almost a month ago on April 25th.
Reeves’ recent success as an action hero comes days after his announcement ofwanting to returnto the comic-book movie genre in his former role as John Constantine.
