She quite understood how special the kiss was in the books, but it was not the same for them in this awkward situation.
“I didn’t think about it that way. But the way it was presented to me, Sam gave me this book of famous kisses, so that made me realize how romantic and special Sam wanted this to be. Even though it wasn’t necessarily feeling that way with Tobey hanging upside down.”

In another interview, Maguire explained the trouble he had breathing as Mary Jane’s character kissed him. The kiss blocked the air passage for him, which was quite suffocating for the actor.
