Upon hearing the exciting news that two stars,Margot RobbieandEmma Mackey, were joining forces forBarbie, the world erupted with joy. To please the already hyped crowd and to share the screen space with such a talented actress, Emma Mackey found herself amidst all the nerves. In the UK premiere of her movie,Emily,she talked a little bit about working with her doppelganger Margot Robbie.
The actress first and foremost couldn’t contain her excitement when she learned she would be a part of the pink plastic world ofBarbie. And the prospect of working with Robbie was the cherry on top, adding an extra layer of thrill. Despite her initial fear, Robbie’s delightful personality and down-to-earth nature eased her nerves as they got to know each other better. As she stated atEmily UK Premier,
“Isn’t she the best, I love her so much, she’s just an absolute dream,—I’m so relieved that she is like that, I think she’s such a wonderful person, she’s so incredibly talented and also so excellent at her job, as producer, as actor. She makes sure everyone is taken care of and it’s just a really, it’s just a relief.”
The fans completely adored the actresses on-screen, although they were a bit disappointed that the opportunity to make the perfect joke was missed.

Why the Lookalike Joke Was Cut FromBarbie?
Fans were left slightly disappointed whenBarbiefailed to acknowledge the striking resemblance between Margot Robbie and Emma Mackey. It turns out, a clever joke had been lined up to poke fun at this peculiar detail. However, once they were all dolled up, the supposed similarity faded away. The main culprit? Their hair. With Robbie sporting blonde locks and Mackey rocking brunette tresses in the movie, the resemblance wasn’t as uncanny as expected. In an interview withBuzzFeed,Margot Robbe revealed,
“I’ve been getting told for years that I look like the girl from Sex Education, who is Emma Mackey,–[Mackey] plays one of the Barbies in the movie pretty much because Greta and I thought it would be funny. We were gonna do this whole joke about us looking similar,”
She continued,
“Once we got all dressed up as our Barbies, we were kind of like, ‘We don’t actually look that similar,’–Like, when she’s got her brown hair and I’ve got my blonde hair, we don’t look THAT similar, so we didn’t put that joke in the movie.”
As a result, they opted to remove the joke from the movie entirely. Fans were nonetheless very thrilled to see their prayers answered, as the actors were finally cast together.
