Tom Cruise’sMission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Onehas been an underperforming spectacle. It is truly a tragedy that this is the case considering how much went into the making of this film, with the entire franchise building up to this point, as well as the fact that both the director, Chris McQuarrie, as well as Cruise, gave it their all. It is also unfortunate because of how much money was spent into making it into what it is, including an extremely expensive sequence of a train being destroyed, as well as Cruise riding off a cliff on a motorcycle.

Another thing can be added to the list of things that was significant about this film, as McQuarrie recently, did an interview where he was hyping up the project by stating something that was added that both he and Cruise had been wanting for more than a decade, and it was not to get Joe Biden himself talking about their project.

Tom Cruise’s Film Made Joe Biden Concerned

Deputy White House Chief of Staff, Bruce Reed, told theAssociated Press, that Joe Biden had become extremely serious about the matter of artificial intelligence, more specifically establishing new standards and security measures around it. This was something that he became concerned with after seeing AI images of himself, as well as when he learned about voice cloning.

“If he hadn’t already been concerned about what could go wrong with AI before that movie, he saw plenty more to worry about,”said Reed.

If this concern wasn’t big enough, it became a lot more serious when he watchedMission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, a film that features the central villain to be a sentient and dangerous AI, who ends up killing a lot of people throughout the movie. This made Biden extremely curious and cautious about this technology.

“Biden was profoundly curious about the technology in the months of meetings that led up to drafting the order.”

One would expect that getting the President of the United States to talk about your film would be a big deal than anything else. However, this was not the case forTom Cruiseand the director.

Tom Cruise and Chris McQuarrie Had Been Planning This For 14 Years

In a behind-the-scenes video posted onYouTube, about everything involved in the making ofMission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, Christopher McQuarrie, went into great detail about everything that it took to film the sequence that took place in the country of Venice. Venice, though an extremely beautiful location, that many projects have been set in, is notorious for being or particularly difficult filming location. The reason for this is the fact that there are no vehicles allowed in the city.

“Tom and I have been talking about shooting in Venice for 14 years now. One of the reasons I’m drawn to it is it hadn’t been shot in quite the way I imagined shooting it. It’s a very difficult location to shoot. There are no vehicles allowed, so everything has to be brought in by boat and then carried to set by hand. We wanted Venice to have a completely different feel from the rest of the movie.”

The director confessed that both he and Tom Cruise had been wanting to shoot in this country for 14 years. One of the reasons why he was drawn to this location was the fact that even though he had seen many people shoot here, it never seemed to be the way he would have done it. This was not an easy task as everything had to be done and brought in through water transport and then carried aside by hand. He still decided to go for it, as the setting was something he wanted to feel completely different, compared to the rest of the movie.
