Inaki Godoy, the actor who plays the protagonist Monkey D. Luffy, got to meet the genius mind behind the tale ofOne Piece, Eiichiro Oda, before the massive frenzy for the Netflix live-action series. Inaki Godoy was overcome with emotion because he was about to meet a manga creator who, in his opinion, was the best in the world. Oda was heavily involved with the adaptation ofOne Pieceto live-action, which is one of the reasons why the program has been recognized as one of the few to overcome the anime/manga adaptation curse.

Oda and Inaki discussed numerous parts of the show during their casual talk. While talking about the show and Godoy’s portrayal as Luffy, Oda san gave Godoy the ultimate blessing that almost brought tears to the eyes of the actor.

Eiichiro Oda Gave Blessings to Inaki Godoy
Inaki Godoy, the actor chosen to play Luffy, got a unique opportunity to meet Eiichiro Oda at his studio in Tokyo, Japan, during a promotional video for theNetflixseries. Godoy had a question for Oda. He was perplexed as to why he was picked to play Luffy in theOne PieceLive-Action series. The reply left the actor speechless. Oda said:
“Actually, my biggest concern was if we could find someone like Luffy. But I watched a lot of audition videos and when I saw you, I started laughing..You are exactly like the character I drew in my manga. Intuitively I thought: ‘That’s Luffy’. I can’t imagine anyone else playing this role. I am so grateful that you were born to be just like Luffy.”

Oda approved of Inaki Godoy as embodying the demeanor and spirit of Luffy, the monkey, the instant he saw him. Despite the fact that Godoy is Mexican rather than Brazilian, he was picked for the role by Oda himself. But initially, Godoy had some of his own insecurities that made him underconfident about the role.

Inaki Godoy’s Personal Insecurities
In an interview withCollider, Inaki Godoy believed that he embodied the role of Luffy as he felt a connection with the character, but had some of his own insecurities. He said:
“I think I do have a lot of Luffy inside me. I’ve always been a very energetic person, that’s for sure. I love to celebrate, I love to eat. I do feel like him in a lot of ways. I also feel like I can learn a lot from him. Unlike Luffy, sometimes I do second-guess myself, and I do have insecurities. I think when I play Luffy, I feel inspired to be stronger and be more brave. So there is a lot that I share with Luffy, and there’s also a lot that I can learn from him, too.”

Godoy discussed what he had learned from the character and how he felt more powerful and brave after playing the role.
