While the film industry takes all the precautions it can to ensure that the actors are safe, things don’t always work out in their favor, especially in the action genre. Sylvester Stallone, an iconic action hero, can certainly vouch for that. In fact, he is one of the actors who permanently damaged their bodies for a role.

The 2014 film,The Expendables 3,had Sylvester Stallone walking out of the set with more than just memories. The actor recalled how a fall ended so badly that he had to have metal put in his back. This isn’t the first time Sylvester Stallone hurt himself while filming. In the lastRockymovie, he ended up breaking two toes. Of course, the actor pushed through and delivered on what he promised.

During a press conference in London,Sylvester Stallonewas promoting the latest installment toThe Expendablesfranchise, along with his co-stars. During the conversation, Stallone talked about the multiple injuries he received while filmingRockyandThe Expendables. However, he added that the worst one yet was on the set ofThe Expendables 3which had him walking around with a piece of metal in his back.

“I grade the quality of a film by the intensity of the injuries. When I shot Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot, I never got hurt. Through Rambo and The Expendables, I break my neck and my spine and I dislocate both shoulders. In this one here, I end up really taking a fall on my back and I…had some metal put in there. So if you here any squeaking, it’s not my shoes but my back. But I’m getting better.”
Yikes! Things aren’t as effortless as they seem on the screen, are they? Stallone also recalled that in the first tape for the film, while he was running up to a helicopter, he ended up getting injured as well. Although, this time, he decided to keep that to himself as he did not want people to think he was getting older. Talk about dedication, right?

In a behind-the-scenes documentary posted on Stallone’s YouTube channel, he described the ordeal stating,

“He pulverized me. I didn’t feel it at the moment but later that night my heart started to swell. My blood pressure went up to 25- and they thought I was going to be talking to the angels…I am in intensive care surrounded my nuns. And then after that, I had to go back and finish the fight.”
The show must go on, right? If you plan on watching or re-watchingRocky IV,you must keep an eye out for the punch that sent Stallone to the hospital and they kept the scene in the film. “How could you take that out?”Stallone questioned.
