TheCall of Dutyfranchise is amongst the most popular video game franchises of all time, with a new game never too far away given there is a release every year. The last game to release wasCall of Duty: Modern Warfare IIin October 2022, and the next game to come out will be a direct sequel,Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III.

While acting as a reboot of the original trilogy which came out during the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 era, the newCall of Duty: Modern Warfareseries has changed certain story elements as well. These changes, coupled together with a new interview given by theCall of Dutynarrative director, should have fans excited for the future.
What didCall of Duty’s narrative director say on the series future?
In a recent interview with The Washington Post,Call of Dutynarrative director Brian Bloom said that the story won’t end withCall of Duty: Modern Warfare III.This could be a hint that there will be a sequel to the game, extending it beyond a trilogy. Speaking specifically on character arcs, Bloom said:
“We think of character arcs as going one way, but they can also fall off their arc, they can go backwards, people can evolve and devolve. All these things, they offer rich, fertile ground to tell stories, and that’s not going to stop. In fact, I would say we’re just getting started.”

What do we know of the campaign ofCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3?
The new reboot has borrowed several story and character elements from the original trilogy, albeit not chronologically. As an example, the notorious “No Russian” level, was in the originalCall of Duty: Modern Warfare II,but this time, it looks like it will be inCall of Duty: Modern Warfare III.The original trilogy centers on the antagonist Makarov’s starting a Third World War, which could be introduced in the newModern Warfare IIIand continue in a theoretical fourth game.

We also know that, in terms of gameplay, there will largely be two kinds of missions for players to complete inCall of Duty: Modern Warfare III. The first will be linear and cinematic, and the second will be more open-ended allowing players to complete the objectives in an open environment with optional content. In the latter, players can even complete objectives in the order they wish to.
