When it came for the star to talk about his 2007 film,P.S. I Love You, he spoke about one of the most iconic scenes in the film, when his character, Gerry, shows up in the room of his love interest, Holly, played by Hilary Swank, in nothing but his boxers, suspenders and a jacket, which he losses early into the scene.
“You know, that scene where I’m dancing and I have the, what do you call them? Suspenders and i literally shot that scene for a day and a half but I had to dance like an idiot in the suspenders and I was like, it was like that first moment in 300 you’re like ‘I can’t believe I’m doing this. This dance in my boxer shorts.'”he said

Butler confessed that this scene was quite awkward for him to film, talking about feeling quite ridiculous being only in his boxers and dancing around. He added that it reminded him of when he was filming300,a film that required him to be in leather undergarments for the entirety of filming, something that he felt very embarrassed about at the start of filming. Things, however, took quite a big turn when the star accidentally hurt Swank, so much so that the actress had to be hospitalized.

Gerard Butler Almost Took Hilary Swank’s Eye Out While FilmingP.S. I Love You
While Gerard Butler was filming this scene, he had to remove the suspenders which would ricochet off, which could have potentially hurt someone, so the cameramen were given protection against this. Unfortunately for Hilary Swank, however, she was given none and during one of these shoots, the actress was hit in the face with the crocodile clip at the end of the suspenders.
“And then at one point, the clip, which was a crocodile clip, it got stuck in the television as I’m crawling towards her. She’s right in front of me, she laughing hysterically. The camera people had these plastic fronts to protect themselves from this, it was so dangerous.”He went on,“This time, I’m crawling towards the bed, it gets stuck, flies over my head, hits her in the head, slashes her head.”He added,“I cut her open.”

Immediately, the set was cleared out and the actress was taken to the hospital, leaving Butler, alone in his boxers. The actor revealed how he felt at that moment, talking about how he actually started crying. He explained he feeling imposter syndrome, adding that he was feeling stupid for acting ridiculously for two days for the shot, and all he had to show for it was nearly taking Swank’s eye out. Though he may have felt extremely upset at that moment, the star now laughs about the entire incident.
