Finally picking up the mantle of Captain America inThe Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Anthony Mackie’sSam Wilson will be at the forefront inCaptain America: New World Order. This will be the first Captain America film to not feature Chris Evans as the titular character.

The legacy of Chris Evans
Becoming one of the original Avengers,Chris Evansportrayed the tenacious Steve Rogers in MCU. We saw him join the Avengers in later films and fight against multiple supervillains including Loki, Ultron, Red Skull, and Helmut Zemo.

But the biggest threat the character faced was Thanos, who was the main villain in two Avengers movies and ended with the retirement of Steve Rogers as Captain America. In the last few minutes ofEndgame, we saw the character give his shield to Sam Wilson, signaling a new era of superheroes.
Will we see Steve Rogers in Secret Wars?
A question that has been posed many times is whether Chris Evans will return as Steve Rogers. Despite his confirmed departure, rumors continue to spread about the actor’s return, now inSecret Wars. Anthony Mackie commented on the discussion in an interview with E! News, he said:
“Chris is so far gone from Marvel… Like, Marvel is not even in his radius. He’s so far gone. He’s enjoying life. He’s like an old retired dude.”

Considering the emotional departure of Chris Evans from the MCU, it would a slap in the face to many fans to see him return inAvengers: Secret Wars. As MCU continues to move forward, it would be interesting to watch new stories rather than hashing out the history of its founders.
