“Toxic and hostile work environment”, are the terms associated with Joss Whedon, the director ofJustice League(2017). Whedon has been in talks for more than a year. Following a personal tragedy in 2017,Zack Snyderhad to withdraw from his role of director from the super hit blockbusterJustice League. Warner Bros. studios then handed over the project to Joss Whedon who as we all know managed to disappoint a lot of DCEU stans.

Turns out the work environment during this movie was not very ideal as many cast and crew members complained about Joss Whedon’s misconduct. Ray Fisher who played the character ofCyborgwas the first actor to open up about it. In July 2020 he tweeted “Joss Wheadon’s on-set treatment of the cast and crew of Justice League was gross, abusive, unprofessional, and completely unacceptable. He was enabled, in many ways, by Geoff Johns and Jon Berg. Accountability>Entertainment.”
Previously, reports of Whedon’s misconduct with Gal Gadot were doing the rounds. However, the Wonder Woman actor has now confirmed it herself. Gadot claims that she was troubled with Whedon’s rewrites for Justice League and had “issues about her character being more aggressive than her character in Wonder Woman. She wanted to make the character flow from one movie to the next.”

Gadot pushed back on some dialogues following which “[he] threatened to harm Gadot’s career and disparaged Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins.” Another source claims “Joss was bragging that he’s had it out with Gal. He told her he’s the writer and she’s going to shut up and say the lines and he can make her look incredibly stupid in this movie.”
In a statement, Gadot says: “I had my issues with [Whedon] and Warner Bros handled it in a timely manner.”

After Fisher’s statement, an investigation was carried by Warner Bros. Following which remedial actions were taken but not reported. More recently, Whedon was also accused by various cast members of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Charisma Carpenter in February said that Whedon has a “history of creating toxic and hostile work environments.”
With all the allegations going around, Joss Whedon’s career seems almost over. Though such statements weren’t seen on the sets ofThe AvengersandThe Avengers: Age of Ultron. The blockbuster director crossed all limits on the sets ofJustice League.
