The voice cast ofFinal Fantasy 7 Rebirthwas scheduled to be present at the New York Comic Con Panel, which is concluding today. Fans expecting to meet the cast were pleasantly surprised to meet Matt Mercer, who has since been confirmed to have voiced Vincent Valentine in the highly anticipated remake project that will be released on February 29th next year.

Matt Mercer confirmed that he is voicing Vincent Valentine in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth at NYCC.

The second entry in theFinal Fantasy 7 Remaketrilogy, the game will have Cait Sith and Red XIII as playable characters, along with Sephiroth, who will be a playable character during the Nibelheim flashback. The character of Vincent Valentine is a fan favorite, and with Matt Mercer’s confirmation of having voiced the character, fans have reacted highly positively to the news.

Joining theFinal Fantasy 7 Rebirthpanel, Matt Mercer brushed aside long-standing rumors by confirming the news of him voicing the character of Vincent Valentine. Mercer alsopostedon his X (formerly Twitter) account later on about the confirmation, while the official social account ofFinal Fantasy 7on X alsoposteda message about the news with an official image of the character.

Mercer also mentioned the impact the game has had on him and, hence, how he felt honored to have been part of the series. Mercer concluded his post by linking an oldpostfrom 2021, where he mentioned submitting a “deeply personal and extremely important audition.”

The post was met with a plethora of good wishes and thoughts, and Mercer also posted a screengrab of that old post and thanked his fans and Steve Blum, the voice actor for Vincent Valentine in the original game.

Ahead of the panel, it was initially posted on the official website of the New York Comic Con event that the panel would be hosted by voice actor Matt Mercer, who will discuss the game along with Cody Christian, voice actor of Cloud Strife, John Eric Bentley, voice actor of Barret Wallace, Britt Baron, voice actor of Tifa Lockhart, Max Mittelman, voice actor of Red XIII, and Suzie Yeung, voice actor of Yuffie Kisaragi.

When Mercer came on and then made theannouncementofficial, it was welcomed by the audience with a huge roar.

At the panel, Mercer revealed that after he had auditioned for Valentine in the game to which he said he put in all his energy, he revealed not having heard back for nine months. Mercer then went on to say that the team did give him a callback, but only to mention that he’d once again play some nameless NPCs.

Mercer then revealed how the producing team pranked him by giving him a few lines of an NPC before the screen faded to black and then back on to reveal the actual character and the lines he was chosen to voice over. The prank, in turn, sounded like a sweet way for Mercer to get the news that his audition was successful and that he had landed an epic role.
