Attack on Titananime’s 10-year journey reached its conclusion earlier in November 2023. It was an emotional farewell for some of Otakus’ favorite anime characters, such as Eren Jaeger, Levi Ackerman, Erwin Smith, and more.

Speaking of Eren and Erwin, the two characters are hardly compared to each other despite their ultimate goal being to end 2000 years of Titan domination. A huge reason behind it is the way that the two characters moved towards their respective goals in the series.

Did Eren Jaeger and Erwin Smith Want the Same Thing inAttack on Titan?

Well, the answer is both yes and no. Did Eren and Erwin want to free the world from the dominance of the Titans? Yes. However, the methods they used to get close to achieving that dream were a bit different.

While Erwin Smith didn’t lose sight of his dream for most of the anime, he did give up on it during the final battle to reclaim Wall Maria.

But ultimately, Erwin led hundreds of scouts to their deaths to give Levi a shot at killing the Beast Titan. It finally allowed humanity inside the walls to finally get a glimpse of the truth that lies in the outside world.

Keeping that in mind, Erwin may have died before seeing the secret inside the basement, he didn’t stop pushing towards it until his last breath.

As for Eren Jaeger, his dream was to attain freedom. Similar to Erwin, the main character of the show didn’t stop in his tracks until he reached his dream. Even though it required a huge sacrifice from Eren, he didn’t falter even when fighting his friends.

All things considered, the two characters went as far as they could to achieve their dreams, but the future of humanity was ultimately more important for the late Scouts’ commander. While Eren had no such limitations.

Attack on Titanis undoubtedly one of the best-written shows out there. Hajime Isayama’s masterpiece began with humanity’s battles against the Titans. But over the course of the series, it became clear that Isayama planned several amazing plot twists to impact fans like no anime ever did.

The final season of the series, he completed the full circle for Eren Jaeger and the residents of Paradis Island. Eren died, but not before ensuring that no country in the entire world would dare to attack his friends and Paradis Island.

However, the post-credit scene shows an unnamed boy with a dog entering the same tree where Eren’s head was buried. Moreover, the boy was shown wearing a similar scarf that Mikasa wore. The only difference is that it was a post-apocalyptic world that was destroyed due to the cycle of war.
