Dead Rails introduced a new and first miniboss: Goliath, a green, Hulk-like zombie that has about 3000 HP and does about 20 damage per hit, armed with a modified cannon. He deals high melee damage, but despite wielding a cannon, Goliath does not actually fire it. This means you should treat him like a buffed zombie.
To fight Goliath, you’ll need to visit a location called Stillwater Prison. Make sure to check ourStillwater Prison Guide. It usually spawns on the left side of the road while you’re traveling.
Inside the prison, you’ll see two main sections:
Before triggering the boss, make sure you’ve cleared out the inmates and guards. They’ll keep spawning for a couple of minutes, so bring enough ammo. Aim for their chests instead of their heads to save bullets; your shots will pierce through their armor better that way.
In the center of the prison, there’s a glowing sword, Excalibur. Once you start pulling it from the ground, a boss named Goliath will spawn. He’ll blast through the wall and come straight at you with a cannon in hand.
He moves at about the same speed as you, so don’t panic. You can backpedal to stay out of range or lure him into the prison, where he tends to get stuck in corners and walls.

Even with just one bottle of Snake Oil, you can outrun him. Just don’t get caught in close quarters, or he’ll deal massive damage fast.
With the right setup and timing, Goliath isn’t that hard to beat. And once you get Excalibur, the rest of the game gets a whole lot easier.
