With casting under way for the live-actionDCUniverse dramaStargirlmore details are surfacing about who may land the role of Courtney Whitmore/Stargirl according to a report fromThat Hashtag Show.

Stargirlis coming from DC Comics writer and Stargirl creator Geoff Johns, who based the Justice Society of America member on his sister who was killed in the tragic TWA Flight 800 explosion in 1996. Johns, who recently announced the series at this year’s San Diego Comic Con has stated that the series will premiere sometime in 2019, with the character leading a new age of heroes after discovering her stepfather’s own past as a Golden Age hero. Johns is set to write and executive produce the series through his new production company, Mad Ghost Productions and Greg Berlanti’s Berlanti Productions, with Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter also producing.

In the report, THS reveals what Johns and company have planned for this new version of the character. The series is interested in casting an 18+ year old actress of any race or ethnicity to portray a 15-year old Courtney Whitmore/Stargirl. As Johns previously stated, he wants to cast someone who embodies the personality of his sister, which the description for the actress fits that bill. She is described as witty as well as an incredible kind individual who is living a perfect teenage life in Los Angeles, California. Eventually, her world changes after her mother gets remarried and they are forced to relocate to the town of Blue Valley, Nebraska. This move causes Courtney to struggle with acclimating to life outside the big city and attending a new school, which is forever changed after she discovers that her new stepfather is harboring a big secret. Her stepfather used to a Golden Age hero, who wielded a cosmic staff. Upon learning this secret, Courtney decides to steal the staff and goes on a mission to inspire and lead the next generation of heroes.
Stargirlwill mark the third time that the teenage heroine has appeared in live-action. She first appeared in numerous episodes ofSmallvillewith Johns writing the first two, played by Britt Irvin. She would later make appearances on the second season ofLegends of Tomorrow, played by Sarah Grey.

Stargirl follows High School sophomore Courtney Whitmore who inspires an unlikely group of young heroes to stop the villains of the past. This new DC Universe series reimagines Stargirl and the very first superhero team, the Justice Society of America, in a fun, exciting and unpredictable series premiering in 2019, produced by Warner Bros. Television, Mad Ghost Productions and Berlanti Productions.
