In an interview withCollider, British actorChristian Baleshared an intriguing anecdote about getting advice before collaborating withRussell Crowein James Mangold’s3:10 to Yuma.TheNew Zealand-born actorwas viewed as difficult to work with due to his frequent outbursts. As a result, some have warned theLittle Womenactor about sharing the screen with Russell. Bale, 49, told Collider:
“Whenever people asked me what I was doing next, and I said I was going to be working with Russell, they kind of looked like [oh no], You’re going to be in for a tough ride with him. And it’s absolutely true.”

However, Bale soon made it clear that working with Crowe was a pleasure. Their shared work ethic even served to strengthen their bond:
“No, Russell was, I don’t mean to talk out of school, but a lot of actors, they sort of complain and whine and do everything to avoid actually getting on with the work, you know, so it’s nice when you’re working with somebody like Russell where you can just get to the point and you can have blunt conversations about the scenes, and it just makes it easy.”

Crowe has earlier admitted to having a brief and occasionally destructive temper in the past. Yet he thought it was not always coming from a bad place. As quoted by theDaily Mail, he once said:
“I’m a little bit intuitive, so I know from a handshake whether somebody means me good or ill..”

Russell Crowe and Christian Bale are no strangers to the superhero film genre. Both actors have prior experience with the DC universe. While Crowe portrayed Jor-El inMan of Steel, Bale portrayed Batman in Christopher Nolan’s TheDark Knighttrilogy. The two collaborated once again on their Marvel Cinematic Universe debuts with Taika Waititi’sThor: Love and Thunder.
Assuming the role of Gorr the God Butcher, Bale was a villainous figure out to destroy the gods. He encountered a number of gods, including Crowe’s portrayal of Zeus. Bale had a much larger role, serving as Thor’s (Chris Hemsworth) more evil and terrifying opponent.
In an interview withThe Hollywood Reporter, Waititi admitted that he was“little anxious”to work with Crowe and Bale at first. He shared:
“I thought that Christian was going to be like a very… you hear stories about actors who are method-y and they really take it seriously.. So I would say that I was a little anxious to work with Christian and Russell Crowe.”
Thor: Love and Thunderwas released during the fourth phase of the MCU. Critics gave the movie mixed reviews; they enjoyed its action scenes, lightheartedness, and performances by Hemsworth and Bale, but they also pointed out the screenplay’s flaws and inconsistent tone.
Thor: Love and Thunderwas the eighth-highest grossing movie of 2022, with a global box office total of $760.9 million.
