Bit behind?See what happened in game 1 Here!

Fans certainly got their money’s worth in the1st period. An earlyBruinspower-play would result in the games first goal around the5 minute mark.Jake DeBruskwould feedCharlie Coylea pass from behind the goal line andCoylewould one-time it through the wickets ofBluesnet-minderJordan Binnington. WithBostonup1-0theBlueslooked to respond. Sure enough around9 minutesinto the periodRobert Bortuzzowould answer the call.Bortuzzowould fire off a bad angle shot that took a rogue bounce off aBruinsdefenceman and up over the left shoulder ofTuukka Raskfor a1-1tie. This clearly didn’t sit well with theBruinshowever as they’d retake the lead less than1 minuteafter theBortuzzogoal. This one would be off a hard working play byJoakim Nordstromwho received a pass fromSean Kuraly.Nordstromthen carried it around the front of the net and beatBinnigtonrestoringBostons1 goal lead at2-1. That wouldn’t be the end of the scoring however asSt.Louiswould tie the game up again around the15 minute mark. TheBlueswould get a 2 on 1 withJayden SchwartzandVladimir Tarasenko, 2 of their top scorers.Schwartzwould shoot the puck, butRaskmade a kick save with the right pad. Unfortunately forRaskthe rebound went toTarasenkowho despite being turned around managed to back hand it up into the top right corner tying the game at2-2 after 1. The shot totals were close withSt. Louisholding a10-8edge, but we still had2 periodsto go.

Unfortunately for the fans/viewers that’s where the scoring just dried up. There were no goals scored in the2nd period. TheBluesdid seem to be putting a lot more pucks on net than theBruinswith a shot total of14-6inperiod 2. There were a fair number ofbig hitsas well, but none bigger than exBlue David BackeslevellingSammy Blaisaround the benches. That about does it for the2nd period, so would the scoring return in the3rd?

The short answer is no, there weren’t any goals in the3rd periodeither. The shots were a lot closer though as it was a9-9tie inperiod 3. TheBluesnearly won the game in thefinal minuteof the period.Carl Gunnarssongot the puck at the point with nobody around him and let off a howitzer. The shot zoomed over the left shoulder ofRaskand clanged off the post and back out over the right shoulder. With that near miss the game would go toovertime, so the next goal would seal the deal.

Overtimedidn’t last very long,3:51in fact. The winning team also hadall4 shotsin overtime, and the goal scorer a very nice moment of redemption. Who scored the winner, and for which team? It would beBluesdefencemanCarl Gunnarssonwho’d end the game inovertime. Yes the same one that almost ended the game in the3rdwith a shot off the post. This time he got the puck on the opposite side and blasted it through a screen and over the right arm ofRaskfor the3-2 victory. This would signalSt. Louis’firstStanley Cup Finals win ever, and it would even the series at1-1. The overall shots were almost dead opposite ofgame 1as this time theBlueshad a37-23edge.Game 3will take placeSaturday June 1st in St. Louis. Stay tuned for more championship updates and recaps onFandomwire.
