Ben Affleck will be back again in another action-packed thriller withThe Accountantsequel already confirmed. Director Gavin O’Connor’s 2016 movie grossed over $155 million worldwide, and even though it struggled to gain traction for a bit after Affleck got caught up in a number of commitments, the follow-up project is finally moving forward.

O’Connor and Affleck will team up again alongsideThe Punisherstar Jon Bernthal. There had been talks as well about turning the franchise into a television series instead of a film after Amazon picked up the project.

Ben Affleck Will Return ForThe Accountant 2
Gavin O’Connorpreviously talked in a podcast viaCinemaBlendand shared thatBen Affleck’sThe Accountant 2is finally happening. He said:
“We literally just closed that deal. We’re doing The Accountant again… I’ve always wanted to do three because what, the second one’s going to be more with — we’re going to integrate his brother into the story.”

He noted thatFuryactorJon Bernthalwill get more exposure in the sequel. With the hype of the action movie genre following the success of theJohn Wickfranchise, the director feels confident that fans will patronize Affleck’s new film. He also planned to make it a trilogy:
“So there’ll be more screen time for [Jon] Bernthal in the second one. And then the third movie’s going to be, I call it, ‘Rain Man on steroids.’ The third movie is going to be the two brothers, this odd couple. The third one is going to be a buddy picture.”

Affleck also revealed in a 2020 interview withColliderthat they had plans to produceThe Accountantsequel as a series, but now it seems they have decided to stick to the film format:
“We’ve talked about it. There seems to be a debate whether or not to do a TV series version of it. The scriptwriter [Bill Dubuque] has become quite successful and busy, so he’s off doing his thing. And somebody said to me, ‘Well if we could find a script that we could retrofit and make into a sequel…’”

The Accountantsequel will see Affleck return as the autistic accountant who secretly works as a hitman.

In the same interview withCollider, Ben Affleck admitted he loves working with Gavin O’Connor and that he would collaborate with him again at any opportunity. He also had no qualms about whichever format the studio decided to do with the sequel:
“It is one of the few movies that I’ve worked on, that I’d be thrilled to work with Gavin again and do that again. I had a great time. It was a lot of fun. It was an interesting twist on the genre, and I’d love to do it. And if they want to produce a TV show version of it and I get some royalties, well that’s great too.”
The complete official cast is not yet announced, though the director has teased what viewers can expect to see in the sequel. Even though Keanu Reeves has seemingly hinted at his retirement from playingJohn Wick, the action movie genre will continue withThe Accountantsaga.
