However, he recently reprised his role in an unexpected and intriguing manner in a viral fan art. And fans might not see the superhero they have loved for years, as the fan art depicts him as an evil variant of Iron Man.

Fan Art Depicts Robert Downey Jr.’s Return inSecret Wars
The upcoming Marvel filmAvengers: Secret Warsis expected to open the door for the return of the past MCU actors in many ways.Robert Downey Jr.,is known for portraying Iron Man in the superhero franchise.
And a digital artist has recently depicted his return in a fan-made poster. Instagram user@marvels.wolverine, shared a look at what his return to the MCU could look like. However, instead of the superhero, he is depicted as an evil variant of the character, Superior Ironman.

Superior Iron Man is one of the darkest versions of the character. The villainous version of the superhero was created during the events ofAvengers & X-Men: AXIS #9after a magical spell inverted his personality. Earlier, he was rumored to appear inDoctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

How Could Robert Downey Jr. Return to the MCU?
With the possibility of bringing back some of the most beloved MCU characters,Avengers: Secret Warshas been one of the highly anticipated movies among MCU fans. And multiple reports already suggest that Robert Downey Jr is also expected to reprise his role as Tony Stark, aka Iron Man, inSecret Wars,however nothing is confirmed as of yet
The movie is expected to bring him back as one of the variants of the character. However, there are also speculations that fans might get a glimpse at their favorite character in other projects beforeSecret Warsas well.
He is expected to appear in Don Cheadle’s solo filmArmor Wars. While there have not been any multiversal connections to the movie, Downey Jr. is expected to make a surprise appearance as an AI or through a flashback in the movie. However, the studio has not confirmed anything so far.
Avengers: Secret Wars isset to release on July 19, 2025.
